El Salvador Mission Trip - Friday, April, 10

By Jeff Philbrick, Headmaster

Another hot, humid and event-filled day in El Salvador. Today was our third day at Casa Manna, and it’s almost like we’re getting used to the 90° heat! Now having spent several hours at the ministry, and getting to know the people, relationships are beginning to form and we’re able to more clearly see what God is doing through this church. Similar to Thursday, today was all about plentiful children’s ministry, and significant progress on the building project. Compared to us Americans, these people have significantly less material possessions, yet they exude a joy and a positive outlook on life that is both reflective and invigorating. We are here to serve them, yet we have a lot to learn.

We are working with a Latin American ministry called Christ for the City International. For the first part of our trip, we are partnering with the Casa Manna and Baptist Church. We are staying in a lovely villa, owned by some wealthy westerners, who rented out to the surfing community. When we get home from our hot workday, we enjoy the air conditioning, and the beautiful facility CFCI has provided a chef for us as well as an on-site missionary named Ronald, who cares for us each day.

After another long and great day of work and play at the church, I and the other adult leaders had the distinct honor of visiting the house of one of our co-laborers.  After much hand gesturing and conversations in Spanglish, the whole team has been blessed to work alongside and learn from a great man, his wife, and their child.  To be hosted by such a beautiful family and getting to really see the personal lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ across the globe was truly a once in a lifetime experience that I will cherish forever.
