Yesterday, the drama team completed a full run-through of the play from beginning to end, and they are looking fantastic! Their costumes bring the story to life, and their energy and talent make this production a true delight to watch.
Opening night for The Surprise is this Friday, May 15, at 7:00 PM at the Candia Congregational Church. If you are unable to attend on Friday, there will be a second performance on Saturday, May 16, at 7:00 PM in the same location. No tickets are required, so simply come, find a seat, and enjoy this lively and thought-provoking allegory presented by our Project-Based Learning Drama Class.
Director’s Description by Christopher Ouelette
This fun and introspective romp though absurdity and seriousness was penned by the hero of CS Lewis, the Patron Saint of Wit and Paradox, Apostle of Common Sense himself, GK Chesterton. When a Franciscan Monk bumps into a Hippie Artist he is treated to a “puppet show” featuring the Artist's Clock Work performers. (Did you know you could fit that many fairy tale characters in one VW bus?) As they explore the ideas of story and the meaning of humanity, the Artist is looking for a miracle and as it turns out, the Monk – um... knows a guy...

Plot Overview
An Author (representing God) creates a perfect world with perfect puppets (humans). He wants them to have free will, but when he grants it, the characters rebel, destroying the perfection and creating a "mess".
The "Surprise" Ending
The play concludes with the Author becoming part of his own play—a direct allegory for the Incarnation of Christ.
