Washington DC Mission Trip - Day 6

By Susan Sicard, Faculty

On Saturday, we split into two groups. Eight students went to the Museum of the Bible where we saw wonderful exhibits about ancient Canaan, Israel in Christ’s day, and how we got the Bible of today. We were also able to see a special exhibit about the Dead Sea Scrolls. We saw manuscripts from the first century that confirmed the truthfulness of the Bibles we use in class every day. After leaving, we had the opportunity to listen to and share the Gospel with some Jehovah's Witnesses. We had hours of discussion afterward and grew in our ability to defend our faith and steer conversations towards Christ.

The second group of seven students went on a tour of the monuments. When the group arrived at the World War II Memorial, we noticed an Honor Flight Group was there from Florida. One group met a WWII vet near the Pacific section of the memorial. This was a special moment. As the group continued through to the Vietnam Memorial and Korean War Memorial we had the opportunity to see and thank many veterans. With their presence, the Vietnam Memorial was very somber. After making it to the Jefferson Memorial the team then headed off to visit the Smithsonian Museum.

For both groups the day was very special and memorable. We look forward to traveling home and sharing in person what we have learned and experienced.
