A Perfect Balance of Physical Challenge, Spiritual Reflection, and Community Building

By Carter Martens, Faculty

The Fall Mountain Retreat at Camp Shiloh was an incredible experience for students, staff, and leaders, filled with adventure, community, and personal growth. It is a long-standing school tradition focused on spiritual formation, (shout-out to Pastor Brett Clausing for his three wonderful messages on God's love, our love of God, and loving others, as well as Mr. Hannan for his sunrise service message on Gospel motivation), community development, and encountering God's beautiful creation. From the exhilarating cliff-jumping on the first day to the challenging hikes on the second, students had the opportunity to push their limits and explore the stunning natural surroundings. The variety of hiking trails allowed each student to choose their own challenge, whether it was the serene pond loop or the steep and rugged ascent of Mounts Adams and Madison. The day ended with a cozy bonfire, providing a perfect setting for reflection and bonding.

The final day blended spiritual reflection with fun and engaging activities, including archery, riflery, volleyball, and creative skits. The sunrise service was a peaceful way to start the morning, setting the tone for a day of contemplation and connection. The retreat offered a perfect balance of physical challenge, spiritual reflection, and community building, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of stepping outside our routines to reflect, connect, and grow together.
