We are Praising the Lord for answering our prayerful need and excited to announce Mrs. Kathy Carlson as our new Director of Admissions. Kathy will be responsible for providing creative vision and dynamic oversight for our admissions, recruitment and retention efforts. As an Alumni parent, International Host “Mom”, and parent to current JRHS students, Kathy is no stranger to our community and the Mission of JRHS. We’re blessed to now have her serving as part of our Leadership Team!
As a young married couple, Kathy and her husband, Carl, moved to New Hampshire from Cleveland, OH for a job relocation in 1999. They will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this September! Kathy earned her BA in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs from Miami University, and soon after earned an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, and a Master of International Management from Thunderbird School of International Management. She has worked mainly in marketing roles in the medical device industry.
While their oldest son, Sam, was attending JRHS, The Carlson’s welcomed Austin Seo, an International Student from South Korea, into their family of six where he stayed for 3+ years. Kathy said, “He fit right into our family, worked hard and matured, all the while blessing us with his sense of humor, kindness, and zest for life. We are his U.S. family, helping him to move into UConn his freshman and sophomore years, and providing a homebase during school vacations. We are very excited to welcome another International Student into our home this fall!”
We asked Kathy what her goals are and what she’s most looking forward to as she serves in this new important role; “We have a big goal: increase our school size to 60 students for the 2025-26 school year. An expert consultant in managing and growing Christian schools has provided us with a detailed marketing plan, and I will be following his excellent plan to a tee. There are a lot of initiatives I will be undertaking this summer and into the fall, most of which will be very noticeable on campus and online. This week I am diving deeply into the plan to flesh out our marketing efforts. One of my primary activities later this summer will be making contact with local churches to introduce JRHS, develop relationships, give tours, answer questions, and ultimately lead people through the admissions process. An important change to note is the West Room renovation that began this week. An industrious team of Dan Burgher, Joey Philbrick, and Jake Samuelson are currently transforming the West Room from a classroom into the Admissions Office where I'll be working as well as meeting with prospective students and their families. Make sure to stop by and say hello! It will be a pleasure to be working on campus and be a part of our loving and hard-working team and work more closely with students. I can't wait to spread the news of how important an option JRHS is for students and the truly life-changing impact we make in students' lives!”
When she’s not working, you may find Kathy cooking, reading, listening to music and podcasts, gardening, making pretty things and playing strategy games. “I have other interests like guitar, studying martial arts, and exploring, that I've put aside while in this season of parenting and working full-time. There are never enough hours in a day!”, Kathy added.
