Skye's Mission Trip Reflection

By Skye Michelson ('28)

My name is Skye. I worked with Mr. Martens, Mr. Carlson, and Mr. Burgher. I also worked with Jermaine who was part of The Philadelphia Project. There were two other groups whose leaders were Mr. Philbrick and Mrs. Sicard.

One of the best parts of working with The Philadelphia Project is getting to see homeowners reactions after you have served them, whether that is building walls or painting rooms. You also get to experience what living is like in Philadelphia, most of the homes are dirty and filled with smoke from cigarettes.

After seeing myself and hearing from other people's stories, I want to be kinder to everyone and help however I can and whenever I can, because you never know what could be going on in their life. I heard and saw many people not caring or just ignoring people during this trip, and my heart hurt for them.

I want to thank Mr. Carlson for including me even when he didn’t have too.

I also wanted to thank Jermaine for helping me try new things.

I want to thank The Philadelphia Project for creating this opportunity for Jesse Remington to serve.

I want to thank the Mattes for funding my trip.

I want to seek more opportunities to help serve in my community and in my home life. Such as just simply cleaning dishes or helping with putting away chairs. I also want to become closer with my Church community and serving can help with this.
