February Tech Challenge: Arming Students with Insight

By Jacob Samuelson, Campus Life Director

Mr. Philbrick and Ms. Ellie introduced key ideas from Jonathan Haidt and Justin Earley, two leading voices researching how technology shapes our habits, attention, and relationships. Drawing from Haidt’s research, students explored how many hours different generations spend on their phones each day and discussed how constant screen use is changing the way we think, learn, and interact.

The seminar also introduced Justin Earley’s Hang 10 Movement, which formed the foundation of a practical Tech-Wise Challenge. Students were encouraged to grow in three key areas of their digital lives:

  • Communal habits – How we use (or don’t use) technology around others

  • Household habits – The rhythms and boundaries we set at home

  • Personal habits – The daily disciplines that shape our focus and character

Take a few minutes this week to ask your student what stood out to them. You might be surprised by the conversations that follow!

If you'd like to schedule a time for the seminar to be presented in your church please contact Jeff Philbrick @ 603-483-5664
